The room was no Hyatt Regency Jeju by any means, but it also wasn't a slum. It was clean, convenient, and cool (temperature wise). We prefer to spend our money on food and experiences while travelling, so we knew we did not want to drop a lot on lodging while in Seoul since we only planned on sleeping in whatever room we chose. What's the point of going all the way to Korea to just sit in your room? So for the price, we were quite happy. The room came with a microwave, hot water pitcher, tv, wi-fi, a fridge, a/c, hot water, a gas stovetop, a full size bed, a bunk bed, a clothes drying rack, a shared washing machine outside the door that only washed in cold water, a keypad entry, and then we added an iron. The beds did hurt our backs a bit, but I guess when you get two princess ahjummas coming from their pillow tops back in the states, we needed an adjustment period. Unfortunately, neither of us adjusted in the 3 weeks we were there, but I swear we tried super hard:)
The room was a stone's throw from a 24 hour 7/11 which we frequented at all hours of the day every day. It was great for morning coffee, late night ramen, and mid-day sandwiches! I have a new appreciation for 7/11's. The only thing missing from Korean 7/11's was a slurpie machine, but I learned to appreciate it for its other perks and conveniences. Even closer than the 7/11 was a piercing establishment called Cobra right outside the apt. door. The two holes I currently have-1 in each ear-were enough for me, so I didn't stop by to see what was going on. I can imagine, though, that it would be a cool place to get some new holes for anyone interested in adding to their personal collection.
The room was also conveniently located close to subway line 2, Hongik University station. It was so easy to get anywhere in Seoul because of our close proximity to the subway line. There are tons of apartments on airbnb for the same price as Robert's, but because humans are creatures of habit, I will probably stay here again if I go back. The beds for Teppy were unfortunately a deal breaker, and I know for a fact she will do some shopping around if she ever goes back. To each her own!
