Vicky and Teppy are sisters, with Vicky being the older and wiser of the two. (Well, maybe not so wise since she fell for Teppy's "Please just watch 1 episode of Boys Over Flowers" crap back in 2013.) Oh, and by now you can probably tell that I, Vicky, am writing this:) LOL. To get a better idea of what this blog is all about, please read our very first blog posting about k-drama addiction. That sums it up pretty nicely why we are here.
At the ages of 40 and 41 respectively, both of us originally hail from Wisconsin, with Teppy still living there. I currently live in the Atlanta area. Did you know that Korean Air flys direct to Seoul from Atlanta? It is more expensive than the route we flew, but if I ever have $2200 lying around next time I want to go to Seoul, I may consider this. (Note to self and dear reader: I will never have $2200 lying around and will always opt for the $1300 ticket with 1 layover that I chose this time, despite the black under eyes from exhaustion, nasty busy airports, walking with 50 pounds of camera equipment stuck to my back, and smaller Boeing 737's that go Tokyo to Seoul. Saving that $900 on your ticket gives you sooooooooooo much more spending money in Seoul, so you can buy a custom Hanbok and eat on top of Namsan Tower at the N. Grill for $120 a person!)
When you buy that custom hanbok, I highly recommend going to Gwangjang Market in Seoul. I had my hanbok made for $280.00, and that was the simplest one I could find. It is made out of polyester instead of silk and lacks the fancy embellishments at the wrists that other hanboks have. That being said, the lady whipped it out for me in 36 hours and threw in a matching purse, tassle, bloomers, and petticoat! And this hanbok is how/why we gave this blog its name. When we were leaving Korea and getting onto the AREX train, Teppy's luggage got stuck at the door when the wheels fell between the door and the platform. I had this hanbok in a box inside a canvas bag. I flung the hanbok through the air onto the train and then bent over to help Teppy get her luggage dislodged. It was one of those do or die moments and if I hadn't unloaded the hanbok at that moment to free up my hands to help Teppy, the doors would have closed on Teppy's bags and I would have been left standing on the platform alone. Thus, the Flying Hanbok was born.
