In the immediate area one can find the Chunky Chunk Stream, Gyeongbokgung Palace, US Embassy, fountains, a theater, and AWESOME people watching. Not a far walk from here is also the Bukchon Hanok Village. Come to think of it, if you head back over to the Chunky Chunk, you are a short walk from the Lotte Dept. Store AND Myeongdong area and therefore, Namsan. All easily walking distances of each other. I'm sure there is even more, but since we relied heavily on the subway system, there could be other stuff close by that we didn't experience or get to by walking.
I can't really describe it...you really do have to see it...but it seems like there is a pulse in this square. It also kind of reminds me of the scene from National Lampoon's European Vacation when Chevy Chase is in the roundabout in London and he says "Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament!" about 10 times because he is going in a circle. That is kind of how the street is in front of the palace. Cars are coming around in a circular motion. Look kids, King Sejong, Gyeongbokgung Palace!...Except, nobody would take their family to S. Korea for a shits and giggles kind of vacation.... and I know this because everybody looks at us like we have been inhaling a lot of wacky tabacky for wanting to spend our hard earned money to go there instead of London or Paris. I mean, C'MON people! S. Korea is and always will be #1 on my vacation destination wish list! Isn't it yours?? Apparently not. I simply do not picture, nor did I see, a little American family coming around the square in a rented Kia screaming with excitement at King Sejong. Then again, neither of us have brought our families to S. Korea yet, so maybe one day a little Kia ...scratch that...a BIG Kia since we are all well over 6 ft tall...will be coming around the corner with some all out fierceness of Americans hanging out the windows waving the red, white, and blue at King Sejong. Don't worry S. Korea. You'll hear us before you see us! Woo Hoo!
