I REALLY REALLY wanted to take some selfies at the Chunky Chunk stream of us hopping across the stream on these little cement cubes that have been placed as crossing points in the middle of the stream. When we got down there, though, we realized that wasn't gonna happen. The Chunky Chunk Stream was so unbelievably crowded! Even when we went 10 days later at night, it was still horribly crowded! I had come up with a great plan to get up at 5 am one morning and then go take my selfies at 6 am. For some reason, despite my early rising, I was unable to fulfill my desire, so no selfies on the bricks happened. We had to settle with having people in our photos. That was ok, though, because we were still able to capture the beauty of it in the photos we took.
Our 2nd and final visit to the Chunky Chunk was a night that a Sewol Ferry riot was taking place. There must have been 5,000 police officers on the roads surrounding the entrances to the Chunky Chunk. We met two girls from the German embassy who told us what was going on. Teppy backed away, but I jumped up to the police barricade and started taking pics. They didn't turn out so great, but I am still going to share them below. It was so exciting to see so many cops and something so worldly and political going on . I felt like I was Christiane Amanpour covering live, from Seoul! Teppy's reason for staying back was that if I got arrested, someone needed to be available to bail me out. I appreciated her thoughtfulness, but it wasn't necessary since I never got arrested.
After much to do about nothing, the riot ended and people went about their lives. We continued on over to Gwanghwamun Square for more photos. Our take on the Chunky Chunk? A must see for anyone visiting Seoul!!!
